Jan in Turner Bistre

The original Bistre was manufactured by boiling the soot from Birch and or Beach wood in Distilled or rain water and filtering it off to get rid of any contaminants.

Availability. Now for the first time ever, Marc A Turner and Turner Artist Colours have recreated the original Bistre ink into an Oil paint that is now available through the internet, we have put it on the market at a subsidised price to allow every one to be able to afford it and try it out.

Use it for sketching. Ideal for sketching using an almost dry bristle brush, use it for plein air painting on its own or in conjunction with Black and White paint,

The joy of Bistre. Apart from the joy of knowing that the great master painters used bistre throughout the ages, such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Peter Paul Rubens, and now for the first time ever you can use it in an oil paint.

Marc A Turner.
