Van Gogh Workshop with Marc A Turner At Castle Park Arts Centre

The Van Gogh Workshop went really well and the results were extremely good from everyone, here are the results from some amazingly talented painters.

The painting of Landscape with Green Corn after Vincent Van Gogh was carried out using oil paints of the same colour pigments and using the same techniques from broken dashes through to using the paint straight from the tube and mixing on the support.

As Vincent originally painted the Landscape with Green Corn, the colours are extremely vibrant and full of life.

Vincent Van Gogh Tribute by Marc A Turner 30th March 2016

Vincent Van Gogh Tribute

As a tribute to one of the worlds best known and loved painters I felt the urge to spend the day painting after and in the style of Vincent Van Gogh who was born on this day 163 years ago after he caught an infection in a wound from an incident where he shot himself.

Vincent Van Gough, his Style of Painting

There was only one man that made post-impressionisms what it became and no other artist or painter will ever take his style of painting and turn it into their own, however we will always strive to follow his brush strokes using his colour palette and to try to emulate him as best we can.

I painted this portrait of Vincent Van Gogh with his bleeding ear, he is in the arms of Rembrandt because Rembrandt had such an influence on Vincent Van Gogh from the day Vincent saw The Jewish Bride, it is said that he was transfixed to it and couldn’t move, he tried to work out how Rembrandt has achieved such a result by just making markes and not actually painting what was there. So not only amateur painters learn from the masters.

Still work to be done on the sun flowers as the paint is so thick it gets hard to work on, what a learning curb.

Turner Basic Oil Painting Course at Castle Park Art Centre 29th March 2016

Turner Basic Oil Course at Castle Park Art Centre

what a brilliant result from a group of excellent students at the Turner basic oil course at the Castle Park Art Centre, It was an excellent venue with the right atmosphere and brilliant lighting for everyone on the course and as you can see, excellent results.

The colour wheel image image image

The work was based on creating a colour wheel using only the 3 primary colours but in both the warm and the cool range of each colour, we then mixed the secondary colours, as this is the basic course it is important not to try to take to much knowledge in all at once and to constantly repeat the information so it becomes second nature, once the basics are grasped and fully understood it makes everything in the future easier to understand.

Value scale

we created a value scale in black and white and a further scale using red and green so this can be used as a reference for the future.

Also not how clean and tidy the painting palettes are.

Turner Basic Oil Painting Course

The students on the Turner basic oil painting course carried out a study using distemper to create an under painting and then complete the oil painting over the distemper under painting, the painting of Apples, Pear and a stone cup after Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin, as we are on week eight of the course everyone managed to put their own mark on the subject with excellent results.

The Turner basic oil painting course is structured for the complete beginner or people wishing to get back into oil painting, it deals with many aspects of painting from colour mixing, learning about the values in painting, the basics of 1 and 2 point perspective and a list of painting methods such as direct and indirect painting.

Marc takes the students through a step by step process to get everyone to have a good grounding for painting anything.

The feedback has been positive with students stressing that they have learned more in a few classes than they have learned on any other course.

Marc believes that anyone can learn to paint and encourages everyone to have a go and realise the joy of creating your very own masterpiece.

Happy painting, Marc;)

Painting of Warrington from Fox Cemetery

On 11th March whilst making a painting of Warrington from Fox Cemetery, some walkers came past and asked if they could have a look at how my painting was getting on, James and Doug write a daily blog on their travels and James asked if he could take a photo for his blog, I was delighted as I didn’t have my camera with me and even more delighted to find it on the blog at; www.narrowboatchance.blogspot.com

Unfortunately I hadn’t been there very long so not much of the painting had been done at this stage, it was starting to get cold and within a couple of hours I was forced to give up with frozen fingers.

Woman Artist

Woman artist have always been around but not recognised, yet some of the greatest artist we have ever had have been women from all areas of the world.

More and more women are starting to get recognised for their input into the art world and I have fount in my tutoring over the years, that more women are learning to paint than men, and gone are the times when women are told what they can and cant create, this is not only a good thing for women, this is good for the world be move forwards in the realisation that we are all equal and have our own ways of creating.

For women artist, the future is bright.

France and Hollancd got together to purchase two Rembrandt portraits and made an historic event.

the paintings were purchased by the two nations from the Rothchiled family for the sum of €160 million, €80 million each, a sum never before seen for the purchase of art for the public.

The paintings carried out on the wedding day of the 9th June 1633 of  Maerten Soolmans and his fiancé Oopgen Coppit by Rembrandt and completed in 1634, they measure 209.5cm x 134.5cm. (82 inches x 52 inches)

Due to this amazing teamwork with France and Holand, the paintings are guarrentead to stay together as it was feared that if a private bidder got them, they would have been separated for financial gain.

The paintings have only been shown once over the past 150 years but after an initial display at the Louvre in Paris within the next couple of weeks, they will be then sent to Holland for extensive restoration and then shared between the Louvre in France and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam Holland for the world to view.

the paintings are both painted in a low key and wide range in typical
