Red Landscape oil on canvas 50cm by 50cm

Red Landscape

I was recently teaching a class on Creative oil painting and asked the class to decide in just a couple of words what I should paint, Red, Landscape and Triangle and circle was the outcome so that is what I painted and I am extremely pleased with it as it has a lot of depth and atmosphere to it.

When I was painting Warrington from Fox Cemetery it was a bright but misty day and this is what I aimed to capture, it was an extremely cold day but many of the people passing by stopped to talk and take a look at the painting.

I was approached by a guy called James who travelled around the country writing a blog of his journey and he took the photo that you see above.

A big thanks to James for putting the painting on your web blog at www.narrowboatchance.blog.com

Vincent Van Gogh Tribute by Marc A Turner 30th March 2016

Vincent Van Gogh Tribute

As a tribute to one of the worlds best known and loved painters I felt the urge to spend the day painting after and in the style of Vincent Van Gogh who was born on this day 163 years ago after he caught an infection in a wound from an incident where he shot himself.

Vincent Van Gough, his Style of Painting

There was only one man that made post-impressionisms what it became and no other artist or painter will ever take his style of painting and turn it into their own, however we will always strive to follow his brush strokes using his colour palette and to try to emulate him as best we can.

Portrait of Van Gogh by Marc A Turner

I painted this portrait of Vincent Van Gogh with his bleeding ear, he is in the arms of Rembrandt because Rembrandt had such an influence on Vincent Van Gogh from the day Vincent saw The Jewish Bride, it is said that he was transfixed to it and couldn’t move, he tried to work out how Rembrandt has achieved such a result by just making markes and not actually painting what was there. So not only amateur painters learn from the masters.

Still work to be done on the sun flowers as the paint is so thick it gets hard to work on, what a learning curb.

Turner Basic Oil Painting Course at Castle Park Art Centre 29th March 2016

Turner Basic Oil Course at Castle Park Art Centre

what a brilliant result from a group of excellent students at the Turner basic oil course at the Castle Park Art Centre, It was an excellent venue with the right atmosphere and brilliant lighting for everyone on the course and as you can see, excellent results.

The colour wheel image image image

The work was based on creating a colour wheel using only the 3 primary colours but in both the warm and the cool range of each colour, we then mixed the secondary colours, as this is the basic course it is important not to try to take to much knowledge in all at once and to constantly repeat the information so it becomes second nature, once the basics are grasped and fully understood it makes everything in the future easier to understand.

Value scale

we created a value scale in black and white and a further scale using red and green so this can be used as a reference for the future.

Also not how clean and tidy the painting palettes are.

Painting of Warrington from Fox Cemetery

On 11th March whilst making a painting of Warrington from Fox Cemetery, some walkers came past and asked if they could have a look at how my painting was getting on, James and Doug write a daily blog on their travels and James asked if he could take a photo for his blog, I was delighted as I didn’t have my camera with me and even more delighted to find it on the blog at; www.narrowboatchance.blogspot.com

Unfortunately I hadn’t been there very long so not much of the painting had been done at this stage, it was starting to get cold and within a couple of hours I was forced to give up with frozen fingers.
